At Axiom we provide high quality bacteriology and parasitology services to the veterinary industry. We understand the pressures in practice and so we use a combination of high-tech equipment alongside skilled laboratory technicians to be able to return efficient and reliable results with patient care at the forefront of everything we do.
Bacteriology
We provide bacterial culture and sensitivity testing for all animal species with methods tailored to each case based on the host species, sample type and clinical history to ensure nothing is missed and the most relevant results are provided. This includes using specific antibiotic sensitivity panels and performing extra testing for certain bacterial species when required.
Our responsibility towards antimicrobial stewardship is very important to us and we screen for resistance mechanisms in all cultures including MRSA/P, ESBL and AmpC. We follow international guidance to ensure the standards used are based on the most up-to-date research available.
We are happy to run extra testing at no extra cost if at request or if current antibiotic treatment is not part of our standard panels.
Parasitology
Our trained technicians are able to perform a variety of parasitology methods to best suit your cases. Common testing includes:
Worm egg flotations (including Roundworm, Hookworm, Tapeworm etc.)
Giardia
Cryptosporidium
Parvovirus
Lungworm
Lungworm
Tritrichomonas
We adapt our methods based on the host species to give the most thorough results for all animal species. There are several profiles to choose from so you can tailor testing to the patient and further testing can be requested.
As well as our faecal parasitology we provide parasitology for skin samples, looking to find those mites that could be causing your patients harm.
Hygiene Screen
We offer specific testing to help monitor practice cleanliness either as part of routine monitoring or for investigation following passive monitoring. Using specific environmental swabs we are able to provide accurate colony counts, identification of isolates found plus screening for MRSA and fungal isolates. With the use of MALDI-ToF mass spectrometry we can give detailed reports of what has been isolated from these cultures.
Before testing we have medics available and we recommend you call us to take their advice of how to best test your practice. We will then send out the correct swabs along with the submission form and instructions. Once you receive your results our medics are again available to discuss the results.
